Backwards Compatibility Allows PS5 & PS4 Players To Play Together | Geek Culture

It has been pretty much a sticking point in discussions for the next generation of PlayStation, but we finally have confirmation that backwards compatibility on PS5 will let you play with PS4 players.

So, if you are an early adopter of the PS5 but some of your friends are not, you can still enjoy online titles with them.

When speaking about backwards compatibility in general, vice president John Kodera said that cross-generation play will be vital to the PlayStation community.

Keeping existing players hooked and in the ecosystem is clearly of high priority to Sony as the company prepares for the next generation, which will supposedly release in 2020.
